Debbie Dust hops on the phone to discuss the landscape of Domestic Pro Cycling and how it's changed. We discuss a bit of what it means to be a pro and/or at what level is sponsorship seeking and crowdfunding really just having friends pay for your hobby?
Note after the podcast from Debbie: "One other thing about being a "pro" that I didn't mention but is certainly something to include: a pro doesn't take to social media to complain and whine about "sketchy" riding that causes wrecks. A pro knows where to be in the group so they don't get sucked into the "sketchiness." If you don't know "how" to race, yeah, you're going to wreck. Go learn how to race. I was wrecked relatively infrequently in all my years of racing and have very few scars and injuries tied to those years. Even when I wasn't the strongest rider, I still know how to race and ride intelligently. I also never called anyone out unless they were being lazy cuz that's not racing. It's just being an a-hole."

Good stuff and a bit of a filler until we can talk Bro Deal in the upcoming episodes. We cover the changes to the cross schedule here locally - talk about Ryan Trebon's work and then cover the purchase of Rapha by a private equity firm that has some stretched ties to descendants of the Walmart founding Walton family. Delicious jokes ensue.

Barron Gira - Everyone's Prince Charming - will he ever reveal his dark side?

Rob Curtis - Acting like he didn't have any coffee that morning.
We are back after adding coffee to the operation here at PSIMET. Check out our new coffee club or simply order some 11 Jackson Heckler blend:http://www.psimet.com/category/coffee/
We take a look at the current state of tubeless technology as it pertains to Cyclocross racing specifically. In preparation for the episode we discussed the issue with a lot of pros who have had documented success running tubeless in racing scenarios.

There's name dropping galore in here - Lance, Julich, Hincapie, among many many others. Multi-time bad ass and Enzo's creator and owner Wayne Simon stopped by to kill some time. A little into the discussion Kevin Moncrieff dropped in. Turns out the two have a lot in common. The discussion went for 3 hours - we cut a lot but it's still a 2 part. Enjoy

Laura Van Gilder calls in to discuss a bit of a snub that came from a VeloNews video regarding her win in the women's 50+ cyclocross national championships. They in essence called her a sadbagger. What's a 52 year old supposed to do when they aren't contending the top race anymore? Isn't that what a masters race is for? Is masters supposed to just be for those amateurs that couldn't make it in elites?

We discuss a lot of what is going on in the season - a little bit of #rakegate2016. Some Heckling. The "old" days of chicago cross. Upgrades, Killing the series comp for cat 4, etc
The man Barron Gira - nic-named "tall dark and handsome" and set up in my phone contacts as my "boyfriend" is one of the most genuine and nicest person you will ever meet possessing a voice for radio and the story telling abilities that rival the Bard himself.
Then there's Matt. He's a criminal................defense lawyer who has some very hard opinions on just about everything but he speaks the truth. He's an old riding and racing buddy that has been with me for all of the racing I have done in the Chicago area.
Then there's Anthony and myself.
Rob and Anthony are joined by Brian Piotrowsi and Scott Van Maldegiam to discuss the local cross season so far, the final ever (?) race weekend at Hilton Indian Lakes, and the current state of diplomatic relations in the Middle East.

Welcome to the Road Is Dead Episode 11. In this episode I take the opportunity to drive everyone through a bit of the history of how we ended up in the current state of the bike industry as we know it from a retail perspective. Some if it is rather basic but there are tidbits in there that even the most stalwart veteran of the industry will find thought provoking. Many who know me have probably heard this discussion in parts before but most likely not all laid out in this format. I actually took notes and tried to make it concise and coherent.
I'm timing this so people can listen while on their way or while at Interbike. It might spur you to ask some deeper questions over dinner and drinks with individuals whose roles are actually more nemesis than ally.
The next step: open invite to industry insiders to partake in a roundtable discussion that will become one of our future podcasts. We will have to limit the panel and not many will want to go on record so if you have the intestinal fortitude to endure then step up and drop me a line.

An interview with US Racing legend Laura Van Gilder. Wiki entry
Interview was done during the Intelligentsia Cup. She had already had a couple of days of racing. All of us had a little bit of race brain going on. She ended up winning the overall Omnium for the series for the pro women's field.
